The List: Top Ten Geek Places to Have a Drink

by Jeff | Categories: entertainment, games, movies, places, television

Geeks get thirsty. Thirsty to visit those fictional pubs and taverns in our favorite stories. Here’s our list, from the bottom up, of the best places for “bottoms up.”

The list:

10. The Raven (Raiders of the Lost Ark)

It’s remote, but there’s no better bartender than Marion Ravenwood. She’s tough, spunky, and cute enough to make you drink a lot more than you should. What to drink there: Shots, and lots of them

9. Ten Forward (Star Trek: The Next Generation)

The views of space make you feel out of this world. The sage advice from the alien bartender Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg) makes you feel more human. What to drink there: Anything syntheholic

8. One Eyed Jack’s (Twin Peaks)

There’s definitely something shady going on. But Audrey Horne hangs out there, and that’s all the reason we need to go. What to drink there: Unfortunately, not a damn fine cup of coffee

7. Jack Rabbit Slim’s (Pulp Fiction)

Vincent Vega called it a “wax museum with a pulse.” Pulp Fiction may not strictly qualify as a geek movie, but it owes so much of its existence to geek culture that it begs to be included. If this isn’t a place geeks want to drink, I don’t know what is. What to drink there: Amos and Andy milkshake

6. The Winchester (Shaun of the Dead)

If this is the best place in the world for Shaun to go during the zombiepocalypse, then it’s good enough for us. What to drink there: Guinness

5. The Prancing Pony (The Fellowship of the Ring)

Gandalf has been known to enchant the beer from time to time. We imagine there are probably real pubs very similar to this one in New Zealand. What to drink there: “This, my friend, is a pint.”

4. The Ink & Paint Club (Who Framed Roger Rabbit?)

The bartender is an octopus, the waiters are penguins, and the entertainment is ducks. Provided you don’t get your drink squirted all over your face, this club promises a great night out. What to drink there: Selzter with rocks

3. The Leaky Cauldron (Harry Potter)

If you’re a Muggle lucky enough to find the Leaky Cauldron, then be sure to make your way up to Hogsmeade and have Madam Rosmerta serve you a butterbeer at The Three Broomsticks. What to drink there: Ogden’s Old Firewhisky

2. Moe’s Tavern (The Simpsons)

Of all the spots on this list, we know the most about Moe’s. By far. It’s appeared in 65 episodes, plus the movie. It’s been visited by U2, Aerosmith, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Stephen Hawking. (Not to mention Hugh Jass.) And if you’re as lucky as Homer, you can run your bar tab up to at least $14 billion. What to drink there: Duff beer

1. Mos Eisley Cantina (Star Wars: A New Hope)

Officially called Chalmun’s Cantina. It’s the benchmark for all cinematic watering holes. Period. What to drink there: Sarlacc kicker

Did we leave out one of your favorites? Let us know!

I suppose the bar in THE SHINING doesn’t count. Maybe that’s for the best.
