The Voices Behind the Robots

by Jeff | Categories: entertainment, movies, television

We all know the voices behind C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and R2-D2 (Ben Burtt), but who brings our more recent favorite robots to life?

Bender (Futurama): John DiMaggio–In addition to the drunken robot on Futurama, you can also hear DiMaggio’s voice as Rico in The Penguins of Madagascar, Marcus Fenix in Gears of War, and Dr. Drakken in Kim Possible, as well as a host of others.

Eve (Wall-E): Elissa Knight–She works full time as a production assistant at Pixar, doing occasional “scratch” voices which sometimes get used in the final film (such as Tia in Cars).

Sonny (I, Robot): Alan Tudyk–You may know him best as Wash from Firefly, or maybe as Steve the Pirate from Dodgeball, but he’s also done voice work in films like Ice Age and Astroboy, as well as Halo 3.

Marvin the Paranoid Android (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy): Alan Rickman–While Stephen Moore portrayed Marvin in the original radio and TV series, Rickman gave him new life in the 2005 film.

Optimus Prime (Transformers): Peter Cullen–If the movie version did one thing right, it was hiring Cullen to reprise his role as Prime. He remains a favorite voiceover for countless characters, including Winnie the Pooh’s Eeyore.
